3. The standard length of time for skip hire is 10 days, but this can be more or less depending on your needs.
4. As a customer, you will contact us when to inform us when you are finished with your skip.
5. Your skip will then be collected within two days by one of our team.

Not everything is suitable for disposal in a skip, and the following items are prohibited:

• Any oil & fuel, or compressed gas cylinders
• Asbestos
• Batteries – vehicle, lithium-ion & household

• Syringes & all other medical waste
• Plasterboard
• Fluorescent tube bulbs
• Liquids

As a general rule, skips should only be filled to the skip’s highest point and not beyond. Overfilling a skip is a health and safety hazard, and our experts are unable to transport an overfilled skip. To avoid this problem, try and be realistic about the size of skip your project will require. It’s better to have a skip that’s too big than too small if you want to avoid the cost of hiring a second skip.

The space available for your skip will depend on the width and layout of your road. It’s worth noting that skips are not allowed on the pavement, so factor this into your calculations. Also consider that the space should be wide enough to allow our specialists to manoeuvre their vehicles down the road to drop off and pick up the skip.

Skips should not be positioned in front of bus stops, entrances, or in places that cause significant obstruction to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. If you need two skips, we’ll make sure to position them as close together as possible.

If you’re planning to put your skip on the road then you will need to apply for a permit, which David Brown will apply for on your behalf. Be aware that in particularly dense urban areas, or narrow streets, there may be little room to place a skip. On these occasions, our specialists will help you to explore other options and find a solution.

Skips can be placed anywhere on your own property without any need for a permit. If you are positioning your skip anywhere else, such as the road in front of your house, you will need a skip permit from the council. David Brown Skip Hire will apply for the skip permit on your behalf. Once the permit is granted, there is a time limit on how long the skip can remain on the road or public space, so check these time limits with your local council.
